Many people may be to blame for their unhappiness, but nobody is ever responsible for your response but you. This is because you always get to choose how you see things, how you react to things, how you value things. You always get to choose the metric by which to measure your experiences.

Perspective.

James William had a terrible start in his career. Having undecided career options, dropping out of Harvard Medical School, failing Amazon expedition, back spasms, painful to the point of making him unable to walk.

Finally, one day, he decided to hold 💯 percent responsible for all the things happening in his life for one year.

The punchline? James went on to become one of the most influential intellectuals, philosophers, psychologists of his generation. Regarded as the father of American Psychology.

We don’t always control what happens to us. But we always control how we interpret what happened to us as well as how we respond.

Whether we like it or not, we are always choosing, whether we recognize it or not. Always.
